LifeSaver Jerry Can Review

Having clean water is essential. It can be harder to have a clean source of water when you are off the grid and when you find water you have to be able to be able purify it from viruses and bacteria.  We got our hands on the LifeSaver Jerry Can that looks awesome, but also purifies and holds 5 gallons of water.

We got our LifeSaver Jerry Can bottle in and the first thing I said to myself was “Wow this thing looks awesome.” I’ve always like the style of Jerry Cans and they don’t have to be used just for holding gasoline. The Jerry Can itself weighs around 9 pounds (with no water in it). When filled up with water it will tip the scales at around 40 pounds. The unit itself claims to filter 99.9% of viruses, bacteria, cysts, and parasites so you can drink safely from water you find in nature. I’m still a believer to try and get your water from a running source and not something like a stagnant puddle.

Let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the features and technical aspects for this LifeSaver Jerry Can:

Features

  • Pressurized with integrated pump and press tap to pour
  • Ultra Filtration (UF) purifying filter removes 99.99% of viruses, 99.9999% of bacteria, 99.9% of cysts, and parasites for safe water consumption

The first thing you need to do when you get your Jerry Can in is to prime it and get it ready for action. This will entail filling it up with clean water and letting it sit for 10 minutes. Then pour this water out and and refill again and get things pressurized. Give it about 15 pumps and then start pumping water through the filter. This will activate the filter and open the pores, so it can start to clean the water you find in the wild.

Now that the LifeSaver Jerry Can has been properly primed we went down to the river to see how this thing would do. We filled it up with some running river water in the side of the Jerry Can with the pump. Always pour the dirty water through the side that has the pump. Then we pumped some into a glass and took a big sip. Not bad at all. From the filter and the carbon disc the water actually tasted great and I’m still here writing this review so no bacteria got to me!

One thing to remember is that once you start using the LifeSaver Jerry Can you have to keep the filter moist, or the pores on the filter will close up. It is recommended to leave a few inches of water in your Jerry Can to keep the filter moist. When you are cleaning your Jerry Can, remove the filter and place it in water.

In addition to being awesome at cleaning the water you may need when off the grid, this LifeSaver Jerry Can is also great for filling up with water before you go on a long trip or taking to a campsite (with normal tap water). It can reduce having numerous small water bottles and it also has an optional shower attachment that can help with showering, dish washing or first aid.

PROS: Looks awesome, keeps your water clean

CONS: Bulky, have to keep the filter moist at all times

Overall, the LifeSaver Jerry Can looks awesome, works as directed and could actually save your life.
